On the night of 21st December 2011 with the support of friends, colleagues, a team of admirable surgeons from Circle Bath Hospital, a brilliant chap from Bentley Motors, and other super-fit riders, my Star-Turn contraption was ridden and spun from nightfall almost until dawn.
The diminutive candles, mounted on brackets, created spinning traces of spiraling light. We were protected from bad weather under a geodesic dome, within the glorious front garden of the Holburne Museum – and there were no icy ditches in sight. Twinkling T-lights spun through the air on a mechanical armature, which was built for me by the talented James Augustini. We were happy to use no electricity at all and it was exhilarating, if hard work, to peddle through the night in a blaze of candlelight.
My sincere thanks to everyone who made this happen. Special thanks to Naomi Wilkinson and the cast of Dick Whittington at Theatre Royal Bath.
